At Big Burd Performance Systems, we use modern silicone cupping therapy as part of our Performance Bodywork approach to help your body release deep tension, improve circulation, and move the way it's supposed to. If you've seen the circular marks on athletes at the Olympics or in the gym and wondered what it's all about, here's everything you need to know.

WHAT IS CUPPING THERAPY?
Cupping therapy uses silicone cups to create a gentle suction on the skin and underlying tissue, lifting and separating the layers of muscle and fascia rather than compressing them like traditional massage. This reverse pressure helps increase blood flow to the area, break up adhesions and scar tissue, release myofascial restrictions, and reduce inflammation and chronic tension in ways that compression alone can't always reach.
At Big Burd Performance Systems we use a modern silicone cupping approach, which is more controlled and clinically focused than traditional fire cupping. Cups can be applied statically to target a specific area or moved across the tissue to cover larger muscle groups, depending on what your body needs.
WHO IS CUPPING
THERAPY FOR?
WHAT ABOUT
THE MARKS?
Cupping therapy is a great fit for anyone dealing with chronic tightness or restricted movement, stubborn knots that won't respond to regular massage, delayed onset muscle soreness after hard training, limited mobility in the shoulders, hips, or low back, or scar tissue and adhesions from old injuries. Whether you're a competitive athlete or someone who carries tension from sitting at a desk all day, cupping can deliver real relief in areas that are tough to reach with traditional hands on work.
The circular marks left by cupping, sometimes called "cup kisses," are not bruises. They're caused by increased blood flow and the release of stagnant tissue fluid being drawn to the surface. They typically fade within a few days and are actually a sign that the treatment is working. Not everyone marks the same way, and the intensity of the marks varies depending on how much tension is present in the tissue.

At Big Burd Performance Systems, cupping therapy is a standard part of our Performance Bodywork approach, not an add-on or upcharge.
